Studies show stress reduces our ability to make well thought out decisions. When we revert to instinct that sometimes can be a good thing, but when it comes to food we are surrounded by an environment filled with addictive, inflammatory, toxic options that target our emotional reward centers. We need a higher level of executive thinking to counteract the powerful signals targeting our emotional brains.
Finding a way to de-stress constructively and healthfully can help. I recommend yoga, meditation and cooking dinner at home.
I am a functional medicine doctor practicing in New York City. This means that I not only diagnose and treat disease, I look at the whole person, listen to my patients’ stories, and work to find the root cause of their symptoms.
